Senior Portrait Session Tips {Wylie, TX Photographer}

senior Senior Portrait Session Tips {Wylie, TX Photographer}

It’s that time of year, so here are some tips to help those upcoming high school seniors

HAIR

Don’t use a lot of product in your hair when you come in for your senior portraits. Your hair should move with you when you tilt your head. Don’t forget your hairbrush or comb!

MAKEUP

Oily skin is the enemy. The oil will make shiny spots on your pictures, especially on your forehead.  Wear an oil-free foundation makeup if you tend to have oily skin or invest a little in some face blotting sheets that you can find in the makeup section at many stores. These will absorb oils without affecting your makeup.

Refresh your makeup with translucent powder during your session.

Don’t wear lotions or makeup with glitter, because it will show up as tiny white spots.

EYES

Use neutral eyeshadow and liner colors, such as grays and browns. Avoid pastel shades and frosted shadows. Use a fresh, clump-free mascara so you won’t have clumps on your eyelashes.

NAILS and POLISH

Be sure to have fingernails freshly manicured, clean and filed. Girls, please be sure that you address any chipped nail polish before your session, because it will show.

Black and blue fingernail polish keeps popping up as a fashion trend.  Don’t wear it, it’s far too trendy and it’ll make your fingernails look odd.

Neon polishes may draw too much attention to your fingernails or toenails and might not work well with your clothing choices.

TANNING

Tan lines and sunburns are nearly impossible to retouch. Please don’t tan at least a week before your session. This includes spray tans because they will most often make your skin look uneven and blotchy in your portraits and that cannot be fixed.

WHAT TO WEAR/NOT WEAR

Short skirts or dresses limit your posing options, so think carefully before choosing this type of clothing.

Our goal is for faces to be prominent, not the clothes.  For this reason, we discourage busy patterns and bright colors in your clothing. They will draw the eye to the clothes instead of the subject.

Do not wear light colored pants/slacks with dark colored shirts/tops. It will make your bottom half look much larger than your top half and that’s not a flattering look.

Strive for a classic, timeless look, something that will be in style now as well as 20 years from now.

Choose varying styles of clothing, you need some different looks. Mix it up, bring some casual, some dressy, and some in between looks too.

Please iron your clothes if necessary and bring them in on a hanger. Wrinkles WILL show in your portraits.

We mostly discourage clients from wearing white shirts for most portraits, because white tends to draw the viewers eye, and detracts the eye from the face of the subject unless it’s worn against a white backdrop.

We personally retouch and complete all the final artwork to your images, retouching is not left up to some anonymous lab employee who really doesn’t care.  Every image is enhanced and every blemish disappears, allowing the real you to shine through.

JEWELRY

While it’s nice to include special or important jewelry in your portraits, too much jewelry can be distracting.

WHEN DO I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?

Springtime is busy and with all your upcoming expenses for prom, senior announcements, graduation, etc. So take your portraits in the summer before school OR at the very least, in the fall before your senior year so that you can get them back while there’s still time for you mail them out with your graduation announcements.

Get your senior portraits taken early so that you have them for senior ads in the yearbook, (we can help you design your ad), etc.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!

The session is all about you, so if you enjoy any hobbies or activities…bring something to show that off such as: musical instruments, sports equipment, uniforms, pets. Also bring props and/or accessories that help to define who you are (hats, funky shoes, etc).

Appointments are booked when the sitting fee is paid in full. You can pay your fee via Paypal or by cash, check. Contact us at: info@amomentokeep.com for more information.
